A Historical Repeat on a Galactic Scale | Part 2: Positioning
I’m sure we all remember Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. Well, actually if we’re getting history correct, Columbus followed the Vikings and their landings along the Atlantic coast of Canada. The Vikings were followed by Columbus, Cortez, DeSoto and that whole 4X crew, (heavy on the 4th X). This includes just about every European country known to man and then some.
We are witnessing the beginnings of the newest, largest and most historic “land grab” by the nations of Earth. What Earth witnessed with the land grab of the Americas was practice for the “big one”; space, the New Frontier. This time we’re talking about owning planetary systems, not continents. History has taught us how to do a proper “smash n grab”, leaving the ethics to the next generations.
The opportunistic press, visionary entrepreneurs, and greedy Nations across the globe have created a fury of activity positioning themselves to get the best seat on the bus when this new space race takes off! Everyone is maneuvering to get to the head of the queue. China has announced it wants a permanent base on the Moon, and in space, Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars with Bezos and Branson biting at his heels..
The amount of minerals available in space is significantly greater than anyone realizes. For example, according to The Print, the Asteroid 16 Psyche contains, among other minerals, gold worth an estimated $700 quintillion. I don’t know about you but that’s enough gold to make gold worth about nothing if it was flooded into the Earth gold markets. You could literally buy all the countries on Earth after you have eliminated the government and economic systems. I think now you get the picture!
This move to spread Earth civilization throughout the galaxy is greater than the 4th industrial revolution! I’m referring to Bitcoins, NFTs and blockchain. This ensuing movement will gain traction and more and more entrepreneurs will take up the call and propel the world to build new settlements, cities and worlds. They’ll continue to thrive developing trade routes like the routes our space station was sent to oversee and offer respite and resupply to the weary travelers from Mars and Earth.
In our game, Rise Up!, we explore all these issues of administrative corruption, space junk, and building empires in space. The models we’ve built on Earth will be the same models we transform to fit the vast Galactic Frontier of space. We have the opportunity to learn from the history of our existence on Earth, but will we take these lessons in the future?
